Preparing Your HVAC System for Spring

HVAC Spring TechnicianIt is officially spring, and with the winter weather coming to an end, it’s the perfect time to prepare your HVAC system for the transition into the warmer months. This time of year is perfect for a tune-up, checking air filters, making sure your thermostat is working.

Tips for Preparing Your HVAC System for Spring

  • Remove condenser covers – Before turning your air conditioning on, remove condenser covers, blankets, and lids that were in place to protect your system through the harsh winter weather. You will also want to remove any debris and vegetation that accumulated around the condenser during the offseason.
  • Change the air filters – The winter season can cause dirt and debris to clog the air filter in your air conditioner and going into the spring season is the ideal time to change out and clean these filters.
  • Clean vents and registers – When dirt, dust, and other allergens build up in the vents and registers in your home and the air is turned on, this debris causes the system to work harder than it has to. The dust and allergens will also be pushed out into the rooms of your home, causing poor indoor air quality.
  • Test the thermostat – Once you turn your system on, make sure your programmable thermostat is working properly. If it’s not, your HVAC tech will be able to see what the issue is.

Tips For Your Cooling System:

  • Make sure your cooling system is clear of debris including spider webs and leaves
  • Make sure vents are opened and clear of anything that would block the cool air from coming through
  • Replace any batteries in your thermostats and make sure there in working order before the hot weather comes in

Tips For Your Heating System:

  • Get a furnace tune-up and have any issues fixed now instead of dealing with them next winter
  • Replace any air filters, even if you’re still using your heat
  • Clean out your heat pump

It’s important to also turn on both your heat and air conditioning units to ensure both are working properly and are clear of any issues.
