Maintaining Your AC Unit

outdoor air conditioning unitKeeping up with your air conditioning unit is a great way to save time, money, and making sure that the unit’s lifespan lasts a while. There are services, like our maintenance checkups, to make sure you are protected from the heat this summer. However, some people want to take it upon themselves to ensure the air conditioning unit is running smoothly. If you are one of those people, here are some tips on how to upkeep the exterior compressor of an air conditioning unit.

  • Clean Debris –  After turning off the power, safety first, take a screwdriver and take off the top cover. If there are any leaves or other debris inside make sure you remove these from the inside of the compressor. If this is left untreated, then overtime there can be some complications.

  • Surrounding Area Cleaning During the spring and summer months, make sure you clean the area around the unit. Making sure the area is clean in all directions allows proper air flow, which promotes maximum performance. During the winter months, make sure you cover the top of the unit so nothing gets inside such as snow and debris.

  • Level Out – If your outside unit is not on a platform to keep it level, make sure that the ground it is on is level. Every so often you want to level your unit so there are no uneven areas. Off level units can fail early in its lifespan, which will result in money lost as you will need to replace the ac unit.

These are simple do it yourself methods you can take on yourself to keep your unit running smoothly. Following these basic steps seasonally can really help in prolonging the life of your air conditioning unit. However, if you are unsure about doing any of these steps on your own, make sure you reach out to a professional for help.
